    The reason I started Umami is because I’m someone who is deeply interested in the world of food from what we eat, to how it's grown, to why we eat it and I love working with creative, curious people who have a sense of adventure.

      Testing is a hard job

    Kaia is an eager tester who is up for tasting almost anything that comes from the kitchen.  Her two biggest drawbacks, as a taster, are her inability to speak in a language any of us can understand and that everything seems to taste good to her.

    Tia Osweiler is a graduate of Concordia University in Saint Paul and currently resides in the Twin Cities with her husband, four children, a saintly dog, and a cat who disapproves of everything except naps in the sun.  Apart from running a busy household, she writes, blogs and photo-journals about many things including food, lifestyle and DIY home projects.

    Laura Burrack is a microbiologist with a love of both science and food. She currently lives in Minneapolis, MN with her husband. In addition to experimenting in the kitchen to feed groups large and small, she also enjoys visiting the farmer’s market, drinking delicious wine, traveling, watching baseball, and playing broomball.

    Eileen is a food service professional who manages, teaches, and cooks in Minneapolis, MN.  Her true passion is figuring out and teaching others how to keep good farmer's market food in the fridge and a home-cooked meal on the table, no matter how busy life is.  Eileen and her two young boys are on the move and always thinking about their next crazy adventure.

    Daniel Swenson-Klatt purchased Butter Bakery Cafe in December of 2005 after nearly twenty years as a middle-school English teacher.  His passion for baking scones and making ice cream led him to consider running a small cafe as a career change.
