Hot Apple Cider with Bourbon is one of our favorite drink recipes to make when we're at the cabin in the fall. We'll fill a big pot with fresh apple cider and leave it on the stove with a couple of cinnamon sticks on low heat all day long. That way whenever anyone wants a drink all they have to do is fill up a mug, add a shot of bourbon, and they're on their way to feeling warm inside.

Ingredients

  • 32 oz apple cider
  • 4 oz bourbon
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  1. Pour the apple cider into a pot, add two cinnamon sticks, and heat on a low simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  2. The cider is ready to go when it starts to steam. Note: it can take a while for the cinnamon flavor to come through in the cider, so if you have the time let it steep on low heat for longer than 30 minutes.
  3. Pour the apple cider into mugs, add a shot of bourbon to each, and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Recipe Notes

Our house rule for this drink is that whoever is making up a batch gets to take an extra shot of bourbon for all their hard work.

Also, for best results use real fresh pressed apple cider - don't use apple juice or anything that has added sugar in it. This recipe is also delicious without bourbon.
