Blood Orange Negroni
A Blood Orange Negroni is a unique way to feature blood oranges when they are in season. The bitter sweetness of the fresh squeezed blood orange juice is the perfect accruement to the bitter floral notes in a Negroni. A Blood Orange Negroni works great as an after dinner drink that can be served by itself or to balance out sweet desserts.
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz Campari
- 1 oz sweet vermouth
- 1-1/2 oz blood orange juice, freshly squeeze
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- Pour fresh squeezed blood orange juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, along with some good gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, and two dashes of orange bitters. Give everything a really good long stir.
- Serve in a chilled cocktail glass with a thinly sliced half-moon of blood orange.
- If you can wait for a couple of minutes before drinking to let the flavors meld together.
The amount of blood orange juice can be adjusted in this drink based on taste. We think the 1-1/2 ounces strikes a nice balance between bringing out the flavors in the blood orange juice and having the drink remember it's still a Negroni. During testing we found that stirring produces a silky cocktail while shaking produces a frothy concoction with much sharper edges.
