Onion Dip Two Ways
Once you start making homemade onion dip, you’ll never go back to those little envelopes of dehydrated onions again. When you’re making onion dip at home, there are two ways it can go; the traditional route with mayo and sour cream or the healthier path with Greek yogurt.
Our two tasty onion dip recipes work for whatever mood you’re in. The healthier version substitutes Greek yogurt for the mayo and sour cream in the more traditional version. They’re both delicious and way better than the dips you get in the store.
Ingredients
- 2 cups shallots, diced
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayo
- 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp thyme
- grind of fresh pepper
Instructions
- Add olive oil and diced shallots to a medium sized skillet over low heat, stir to coat. Add salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes until the shallots are soft, but not crisped.
- While the shallots are caramelizing, mix the sour cream and mayonnaise together or measure the Greek yogurt and set aside.
- Remove the shallots from the heat and let cool for five minutes. Add the shallots to the sour cream mixture or yogurt, add chopped parsley, and stir well. Garnish with more parsley and freshly ground pepper. Serve with veggies or chips.
Notes
For healthier version substitute 1-1/2 cups Greek yogurt for mayo and sour cream
