This Maple Toddy recipe is a delicious early spring treat that uses the sap from sugar maples to make a slightly sweet version of a hot toddy.
To make maple toddies you need to have a source of fresh sap. The sap is used to make maple syrup by reducing it for a long time. If you’re lucky enough to be making maple syrup, take some of the sap and use it to make a few rounds of maple toddies, it will help keep everyone warm and happy.

- 8 cups maple sap
- 6 tsp maple syrup
- 4 oz bourbon
- 4 lemon slices
- Start by reducing 8 cups of maple sap by 25 percent or so. The goal is to increase the sweetness and start bringing out the maple flavor.
- For each drink stir 1 1/2 cups of the warm maple sap with 1 oz of bourbon, 1 1/2 tsp of maple syrup, and a lemon slice.
- Serve steaming hot, preferably by a roaring fire.
